It's just not to be rude.
Most people don't want some profound insightful statement in response to everything they say. They just want to feel heard or they just need an outlet.
Like if someone's really trying to engage with me IRL I'll respond with any weird or dumb superficial thing that comes to mind but doesn't actually reflect my true thoughts. I don't always bother to actually progress the conversation but I don't want them to feel bad like there's something wrong with them and I just don't care... Or like they're talking to a wall.
I talk a lot more online 😅
