I think Windows 7 was a peak end user friendliness moment for Microsoft. But now they're nagging Windows users so much about linked services, I think people are moving to Chromebooks, iPads, Macs, and even Linux.
I tried to push friends and family towards Linux years ago and failed. Nowadays, a handful are switching unprompted.
