I'm not saying there are no problems (many dragged from the 90's pillaging), but my impression when I was there a few years back (although after 2014 conflict started) was not of decline but of restoration and embracing all their history. Very nice place and Walmart race was nowhere to be found.
There's been a lot of brain drain ofc, Russians are smart and many have taken advantage of it by getting very well paid jobs in the Anglosphere. But both that trend and low birth rates can be reversed by policies and events. i.e. winning a war and annexing territory is a massive moral victory that could help.
I have to look at the AIDS stats. Given we know AIDS is spread among fags and junkies, my intuition tells me this could be a meme stat and that is not so much different than America or other lower income Euro countries.
Regarding inflation, you gotta consider it hits differently than in hyper financialized economies like America, where inflation hits all those fake desk jobs companies, mortgages, loans, etc. What you perceive as catastrophic numbers are just the norm in Eastern Europe or Latin America. People and economy there has a resilience to it.
