Ok Mastodon, I have a mystery for you. I was at the Oregon State Capitol building yesterday and I noticed some odd black shapes on the wall above the rear entrance. There is a lot of construction going on right now, so I thought it had something to do with that, but then I saw an image on Wikipedia of the same view in 2007, when there was no construction and the shapes are still there.

I did some googling but couldn't find anything about it other than some photos of people with the black shapes in the background and no explanation of what they are. They look to be metal painted matte black and bolted to the wall. They don't appear to have any functional purpose and clash with the clean lines of the rest of the building so I'm assuming it's an abstract sculpture. Lee Kelly is a sculptor from Oregon who has done similar abstract pieces in metal, but I can't find any information about what this is. Does anyone know?
