As of the latest estimates, about 25.6 million people in Africa are living with HIV. The epidemic is most severe in sub-Saharan Africa, where the majority of cases are concentrated. Efforts to combat the disease continue with a focus on prevention, treatment, and education. Globally, over 1 million sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are acquired every day. This includes infections such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and trichomoniasis. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that more than 374 million new infections occur annually. Globally, nearly 1.5 million new COVID-19 cases and over 2500 deaths were reported. As of 6 August 2023, over 769 million confirmed cases and over 6.9 million deaths have been reported globally.
