Most people are looking for connection to other people, but very few want to initiate. We're trained from a young age to abhor rejection. But if someone rebuffs a simple attempt at conversation, who gives a fuck? Don't take it personal and move on. Saying hi to a neighbor shouldn't be fraught with anxiety, but for many people it sadly is.

The nice thing about making local connections is it only takes a couple good ones to plug you into the web of relationships that already exists.
