The "minimal" phones are nice pieces of technology, but you're still chained to a device in your pocket. The alternative, which we had when I was young, was to go out without a device at all.
"But what if someone needs to get hold of you? What if there's an emergency?" Then they'll leave a message and I'll get it when I got home.
People act like all of humanity will end if they can't be reached for a couple hours. But that's how it was for thousands of years. Humanity is still here.
