About 6 months ago I moved to #mastodon.
Thoughts comparing to Twitter...
Pros:
- more likely to get technical questions answered
- generally more sober or thoughtful political discussion
- higher adoption of alt text
- almost zero racism, sexism, and other hate
Cons:
- reach is tiny compared to Twitter eg for sharing events, tutorials, meetups
- not useful as a broad news feed
- no direct conversation with leaders of their respective fields, they're just not here
- retweets were useful
