How much of the emotion of a song do you embody while you're singing it? Are there songs you take off your set list because you 'just can't handle them tonight?"
I definitely do this. It's also shaped the kind of song I write -- these days I'm more apt to sing about healing from heartbreak or trauma, than being in it. Mostly because those are the neural pathways I want to make strong.
