Listening and learning how to stay curious even when you think you really really know someone. Being open to talking and deliberately making time for them regularly. Don't just rely on your existing shared interests to sustain the conversation in the relationship, develop _some_ interest in _some_ things they like that you aren't naturally interested in. You don't have to become obsessed about their insect toe collection but you should be at least interested enough to spend time with them while they do it.
