Clipguard is a checkbox that enables a digital limiter. I demonstrated that in the WaveXLR review where I screamed into the mic without it enabled and with it enable so you could hear the benefit.
Smart gain is a piece of code that analyzes the sound source for a few seconds and sets the gain appropriately. It does not have a limiter.
