Tropical Storm Debby makes 2nd landfall in South Carolina, heavy rain expected up the East Coast

Considerable flooding is expected across parts of eastern South Carolina and southeast North Carolina through Friday, with an additional 3 to 9 inches of rain forecast, as well as in portions of Virginia, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Tropical Storm Debby made landfall twice, causing heavy rain and flooding from South Carolina to the Northeast. Damages include homes and schools, and major freeway closures. Residents in various states experienced flood rescue operations and power outages. Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia declared states of emergency. At least six fatalities occurred due to traffic accidents and fallen trees. Despite preparedness efforts, major flooding may still be expected in the following week.
