The article I found pointed out that a more conservative approach to new situations can have survival implications, since not everything out there is safe, especially historically. That's my approach to, say, a gathering of a lot of people. Lots of anxiety. But it doesn't influence my politics, except maybe that I'm not fully trusting of the gov without proper oversight, which maybe keeps me closer to the center than I would be without that? Dunno.
