Cinema is such a beautiful medium. It reflects the culture, and maturity as a society.

A couple of decades ago, Malayalam movies were not respected and was ridiculed even in the neighboring states. In my opinion, just two movies turned the table around. Premam (Love) and Maheshinte Prathikaram (Mahesh's revenge) were those movies. It was just a start.

Then came Covid-19 lockdowns. That's when people started trying out Malayalam movies. And oh boy, since then across India, this movie industry never had to look back.

It changed the movie landscape of the whole country. Together with Tamil movie industry, we have defined the gold standard of cinema.

As I mentioned in my earlier note, down south, movies are made in such a miniscule budget, other industries can just dream about.

If you have read this far, here is why I wrote all this. There is a movie I want to suggest to my American friends. It's name is Aattam. It means "Play" as in Theatre Drama.

It is a tight slap on the face of patriarchy and male chauvinism. It is available on Prime. A sexual harassment incident seen through the eyes of onlookers who are from different social statuses and through the victim's eyes. It is not a woke movie. But will definitely take you through the process. The incident is not shown onscreen. I would call it a leak proof screenplay.

Language doesn't matter here since we are talking about human situations. Nevertheless good quality captions are available. Highly recommend this. #AMovieADay #WeekendCinema
