It seems like, to some extent, we'd all probably see more success by taking the best parts of Nostr and grafting it onto ActivityPub as an extension/subset of the existing protocol. I don't think enough people understand how hard it is to actually create a new space from scratch, while reinventing the wheel at the same time.
