Asbestos was everywhere when I was a kid: as insulation in cables, cladding for houses, water pipes, heat proof pads in the kitchen, all over the chemistry lab, roofing tiles, fibrous insulation, textured ceilings, car brakes and clutches, heat-proof gloves, kiln insulation, composite switchboard panels ... many of those things still exist.
Because I know it was ubiquitous 50 years ago I worry less about casual low level exposures now.
