A friend who follows visual novels shared an interesting story with me: there’s a minor but growing shitstorm in the tranny left visual novel community. Gensō Rōgoku no Kaleidoscope was released in English yesterday, which is a game written by Ryukishi, the same writer who created Higurashi and Umineko. Umineko in particular is a darling of trannys and tranny enjoyers due to its (at least according to their interpretation) pro trans themes and a trans character that these individuals think is a good example of the “right” way to write trans characters. But it seems like the newly translated game has strong themes of what they call “biological essentialism,” a great sin in tranny world, which isn’t even accurate here because in this case it’s referring to the fact that the game states that men and women are different, not just biologically, but on a metaphysical level have fundamentally different natures. So now they are, more than anything else, coping because they refuse to believe that “their” Umineko writer could possibly write something like this, it must be a bad translation, etc etc, but the seething and dilating is already starting with more likely to come.
