In addition to coding, I spend a lot of time reading far-out stuff, and then try to dial back what I’ve learned into something pragmatic that I can apply. For example, I am reading a PhD thesis on conscious machines, and have concluded we are nowhere near building anything conscious. A housefly has more consciousness than the most sophisticated LLMs out there. So let’s not worry about conscious AGI machines quite yet...
But what I have learned is that our own consciousness is being actively hijacked, so that the imperative for me is build capabilities that resist this highjacking. That means building components that I can delegate control without fear of the component controlling me.
