I'm not sure exactly which discussions you're referring to, but I think many of the objections are driven by the perception that the speakers are insincere. Publications that emphasize "both sides" are still covering a narrow range of perspectives. The same elite people speak their opinion about every topic (or select who will speak), while the vast majority of us are ignored. To top it off, may of those professional pundits/spokesmen are habitual liars and bullshitters, or just ignorant on the topics they speak about. They deserve to be ignored, yet they get all the attention. We don't benefit from hearing the same nonsense again and again, just repackaged for the latest fad.
