1. A compositor bug
I have only just implemented subcompositor support and Firefox does have a hard dependency on that, so there might be just a weird bug here.
I have tested with other applications namely the weston-subsurfaces test application and subsurface rendering does work.
I'm pretty sure that if firefox did send ever attempt to attach a buffer to the surface that it would display properly...
