Yeah there were definitely big shifts in how we cared for them & how much attention they needed.
It also really depends on how you parent. We tended to encourage them to take responsibility which made them more independent sooner. They've both had part time jobs since they were 14, so buy their own treats, fancy clothes & phones (luxury items). They also prepare most of their own meals.
I guess we tended to err towards liberating then rather than controlling them. It definitely presented it's own challenges & required us to stand back sometimes & watch them fail.
This was probably more my influence than my wife's. We both had quite different upbringings.
