In New Zealand, my brother has a household battery, 15kWh, and the company that manages it, charges and discharges it for time of use, to earn money.
So he has a power plan where he pays half what I pay per kWh, and he has a 20 year contract for no price increases. There are solar panels also, so he can keep the power on in an extended power cut.
There is an out clause where he can opt to break the contract, and the company will remove the equipment, at no cost to him.
