About that recent flurry of reports about the dangers of using utensils made of black plastic?
Turns out that the math in the paper that produced the result was off by a factor of 10.
Ref. limit for BDE-209 = 7,000 ng per kg of body weight per day.
Limit for a 60-kg adult = 60 * 7,000 = 42,000 ng per day.
Median intake from kitchenware = 34,700
Median intake = 82% of limit. That is alarming 😬
But 60 * 7,000 = 420,000 not 42,000.
Hence, median intake = 8.2% of limit 😅
