These were my thoughts too, in theory and in practice it is possible for lengthening the cable to make a difference. But hopefully in practice doubling the cable length with high quality cable should not cause significant issues.
I was thinking about ordering another original cable and soldering the 2 together (initially I was thinking of using an S-Video cable coupler but I think that might introduce issues of its own).
