US Sanctions Based on Wrong View of China, Says Foreign Minister
==========
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi criticized the US for clinging to wrong perceptions of China and imposing trade sanctions based on an "unbelievable" list of alleged crimes. Wang stated that the US has not fulfilled its promises on Sino-US relations despite some progress since the meeting between presidents Joe Biden and Xi Jinping. He emphasized that exchanges between the two countries can only continue if both sides respect and recognize their differences. Wang also mentioned that the US's methods of suppressing China are constantly being renewed and the list of unilateral sanctions is constantly being extended. However, Biden has made it clear that the US does not seek a new Cold War or seek to change the Chinese system or support Taiwan's independence. Wang also discussed China's relations with Russia, the Ukraine conflict, Europe, China's economy, and artificial intelligence. He stated that China would submit a draft resolution on AI to the United Nations General Assembly, emphasizing that AI should always be under the control of human beings. Tensions between the US and China have slightly eased since the Biden-Xi summit in November, but they remain in an uneasy detente. Wang urged the US to understand the historical development trend and objectively and rationally look at China's development. He also announced an expansion of China's visa-free travel scheme to nationals from Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, and Luxembourg.
