I downloaded Damus because I want to see how it works and to play around with it. I understand how important it is to have decentralised apps like this for the future of free speech.
The one thing that concerns me though is network effect. One of the main drawcards of the major social networks is the number of people on them - Twitter for example. So for any start-up social network - centralised or decentralised - the major hurdle is to to grow enough, and fast enough, to develop a meaningful network effect.
I live in hope.
