I just ended a story on a true "bus line" like a friend of mine calls them. Lines where you pull your readers suddenly out of their comfortable place and remind them of something horrible that has happened/will happen (if you write fanfic and you can play with that last option because people will know that-bring on the bittersweet!) in between. Or, like here, at the end. Powerful if done right, Huge WTF moment if done wrong.
