China hit by searing temperatures as Asia braces for extreme summer

China is experiencing record-high temperatures in parts of north and central China, with temperatures reaching as high as 42 degrees Celsius in northern Hebei province. The National Meteorological Centre (NMC) has warned of the impact of soaring temperatures on energy supplies, crop production, and people's health. China has been experiencing unusually warm weather since March, with average temperatures from March to May at their highest since records began in 1961. Northern India is also in the midst of a prolonged heatwave, with temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius in late May. Scientists attribute the heatwaves to human-caused climate change. Soaring temperatures will continue in northern China until June 20, with the possibility of reaching or exceeding historical highs in Hebei, Shanxi, and central Henan province. In Mengyin County, Shandong, authorities have resorted to measures like creating artificial rain to combat a severe drought.
