Cause a simple configuration of GlusterFS isn't that much more complicated than getting into all of the LVM details (if you start out without knowledge of either I'd encourage you to go with GlusterFS almost every time).
GlusterFS just scales way better to multiple nodes without having to re-learn from scratch an entirely new product and without having to double your storage just to be able to migrate from LVM to GlusterFS in a sane manner.
