25 years of Michael Bay movies conditioned people to think that the government is this monolithic all powerful omnipresent entity that keeps all things terrible under wraps.
At the same time a life time of government apologists would have us believe that the government is run by incompetent people.
The good news is that the government is made up of people with competing feifdoms of influence. No omnipresent super entity (it’s an aspiration though)
The bad news is the government is more capable than we give it credit for. They suck at fixing roads because it’s not a priority. If Lockheed Martin and friends could make $500 billion off of “the war on potholes” sure as shit they would be fixed immediately (followed by being blown up to fix again).
