What am I missing here? These numbers don't make sense: "[T]he average household may spend as much as $280/yr on the beverage. At the same time, as much as 30% of the population has machines for making coffee at home."

If only 30% of households own coffee machines that suggests most coffee is purchased at coffee shops. I don't know, but doesn't a cup of coffee cost ~$5? $280 is ~one cup of coffee/wk. And really, 70% of you never make coffee at home? 0_o
