-THE BITCOIN ISLAND LIFE-

🎶 Iconic Photo Spotlight — A Great Day in Harlem.

On August 12, 1958, photographer Art Kane (1925–1995) captured one of the most legendary images in jazz history—57 musicians gathered on a Harlem stoop for Esquire magazine.

Police closed the street to all but local traffic as the musicians assembled on East 126th Street between Fifth and Madison Avenues.

The group included Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, Thelonious Monk, Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, Charles Mingus, Gerry Mulligan, Count Basie, and more.

In 1995, Life magazine reunited ten of the twelve surviving musicians, and Gordon Parks photographed them standing where they had gathered decades earlier.
