Agreed that "Dark City" is a reined-in #Matrix. It does have a smaller-scale vibe despite the epic implications, which "The Matrix" cranks right up. I wish my commentary were worth reading. Others' discussions mention "Strange Days" and #eXistenZ, neither of which I've seen, along with "The Truman Show".

If you have access to a university library, you may enjoy Jane Ryan's chapter about "Dark City" and #Jungian #psychology. https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&q=Philosophy+Matrix+%22Dark+city%22&btnG=#d=gs_qabs&t=1720093019205&u=%23p%3D0-kcMB1gPlkJ",
