Today I felt well enough to indulge in a little urban gleaning. There's an area near us that used to be a pear orchard that's been neglected for quite some time, and there are a few volunteer prune trees in a local park. Picked several pounds of tiny pears, and maybe a pound of prunes.
I think the lack of this is the thing that has made me the saddest about being confined to my bed and house for the past several years. I feel the faintest echo of the sort of joy I used to be able to feel, making use of the neglected resources around me.
