The anger you have is both the solution and the issue. Being angered against what is rewarding you makes you a dangerous employee. Being complacent with what you earned is a normal feeling, particularly in the late 30's early 40's. Society is finally rewarding you.

You are in the bull run of your life, secured, rewarded, protected.

And that's exactly where you are both right and wrong. Sure, it's a great feeling, finally you can provide for your family, pay for your hobbies, etc. They even call this mid-life crisis. Diminishing you by the own word.
But, that's not freedom. That's you gaining an illusion of freedom, in the hot, warm uterus of society.

Break from that and you'll see reality. You'll see the crude, harsh truth of what it means to be free.
