ROUND 1, MATCH 6 PRE-GAME ANALYSIS
12th Seed Shantae (Shantae series) VS 21st Seed Tamamo (Monster Girl Quest)
With Reimu currently not quite looking like the unstoppable force of nature I expected her to be, the winner of tomorrow’s match might actually have a fighting chance against Gensokyo's strongest shrine maiden. And this match not only marks the end of Touhou Week, it also marks the appearance of only our second Western character, who's also the only brown-skinned girl in this tournament. Normally, you’d think that would work against Shantae on our corner of Fedi, but she and her games actually seem pretty well-liked here. Hence her qualifying and getting a decent seed. Hell, I’m racist af, and I like her! I’d actually have been all onboard with Shantae getting added to Smash Ultimate, she’d easily have been my pick as Smash’s Indie rep (which ended up not actually happening anyway, unless you count Assist Trophies and Costumes).
Shantae herself is very cute, bubbly, likable and really stands out in this year’s field. She’s also the higher seed in the match, and the good news for her is, in the all previous 5 matches, the higher-seeded girl won (assuming of course that Reimu doesn’t suffer a catastrophic collapse). However, while Shantae’s opponent is a lower seed, and expected to be the weaker Monster Girl Quest rep, and even the weaker Tamamo in the contest, she’s still a cute fox girl AND a Loli. Also, she apparently has a busty True Form too, that on Fedi is probably less popular than her little girl form.
As is usually the case with characters from series with multiple contest reps, Tamamo’s performance could also give us a good preview of just how strong other characters are – in this case, fellow Monster Girl Quest rep Alice, one of our top 4 seeds. If Tamamo can keep up with or even defeat someone as popular as Shantae, then the much higher seeded Alice should be a true tournament threat. If she flops, Alice might end up struggling with the winner of Shanoa-Tifa (I can’t see Ganyu being a threat, after the likely stronger Genshin rep already got absolutely trashed).
