Eggs, milk and other grocery prices fall, as overall inflation eases
==========
In April 2024, consumer prices were up 3.4% from a year ago, a smaller annual increase than the previous month. The cost of living rose 0.3% between March and April. Grocery prices fell, including a 0.8% drop in milk prices and a 7.3% decline in egg prices. 'Core' inflation, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, was 3.6% in April, the lowest reading in three years. The Federal Reserve may be able to start cutting interest rates later this year if inflation continues to moderate. Retail sales were flat in April, with spending at gas stations rising 3.1%. Some consumers are maxed out, with nearly one in five credit card users reaching their credit limit. The Federal Reserve is opening the door to possible interest rate hikes earlier next year due to high inflation.
