Just to clarify, users can't sign up for an account within the app. The sign-in screen says, "If you want to publish your posts on the web, sign up for a Gibberish account using a web browser." There are no links or buttons prompting users to pay within the app. It should qualify as a "Free Stand-alone App" as per section 3.1.3(f) of the App Store guidelines.
And it's not "you download the app and it doesn't work," because even without an account, you can still use it as a note-taking app.
