The key point in the coming years will be the 2026 Trade and Cooperation negotiations. Nothing (beyond a hopefully happier relationship) will happen before then. But from those negotiations, we should be able to deduce a clearer idea about what the future could hold.
But I can completely understand Labour trying to avoid the question, because 2026 is still two years away and there's really nothing to gain by getting into arguments now about the post-2026 situation.
(Plus, frankly, it would look very arrogant for a UK Government to act as though it already knows what the outcome of those negotiations will be!)
