As a Texas resident, I am familiar with the Texas pledge: “Honor the Texas flag; I pledge allegiance to thee, Texas, one state under God, one and indivisible.”
I just returned from a trip to New Mexico where I overheard a teacher leading children at a public elementary school in reciting New Mexico’s state pledge: “I salute the flag of the state of New Mexico, the Zia symbol of perfect friendship among united cultures.” I like theirs better. It was a good experience that I will remember from my trip.
