TBH, this is frequently in problem in the world of open source: a proprietary product has lots of dark patterns and anti-UX features with some nasty purpose.
Then some open source implementation is made, and in order to be familiar for users of the proprietary tool, they copy a lot of their UX, unintentionally copying the same dark patterns.
