USB3 is a bit more awkward given the number of pins, range and resistance sensing rules but I can see the appeal, and you'd probably want some basic USB 5v stuff on a bus stop anyway as well for phones and the like.
The other problem of course is the question of what people will do if you leave unattended free power around in public spaces. Things like flyposters replacing their crap with cheap loudspeaker/sound recorder chips plugged into the free power, and how to manage it
