We’ve been giving our homeschooled kids (9 and 12 yrs) $10 a week for a couple of years now. Nothing is required to “earn” the allowance. It’s been great for basic math kind of things, like “do I have enough to buy that?”, etc.

However, they are happy to spend their money on ephemeral in-game items; Minecraft worlds that are used once, holiday skins that are used for a day or two, etc.

I realize there are predatory practices to drum up emotional need to buy these kind of things, but it feels like they don’t value their money very much.

Feels a bit like UBI and, at the same time, what the deflationary future of a bitcoin standard could be for savers.

Anyone applying a value for value model for allowance?

How do BTC parents encourage their kids to produce value?

How do you educate your children about money?

I feel like I’m missing something fundamental.
