Nov 16 #WordWeavers Do you make up words for your books? Any tricks?
My Sky All Hung with Jewels is set in an alternative history future (phew!) in which Cleopatra and Antony won the war against Rome. The dominant language has evolved from Egyptian and Ancient Greek, rather than Latin, so I’ve coined words for technology. I’m trying to develop different registers for synonyms, as well, with Coptic vs. Greek roots. (Such as the one for “car.”)
I’ve been keeping track of them with a table:
