There were tools to help with this (they all got shutdown).
Fundamentally, they produced csv files that you could use to import people to follow in your settings. (You can also export people you are following there).
So that isn’t as easy to use and advertise as what bluesky has but it probably means it can be built on. I agree it would be helpful.
