My strategy is to think about things I enjoy doing, and then think about some small nice-to-have things that I might like to have related to those things. So maybe a sharks mystery signed puck, or an interesting hot sauce or other ingredient (I love eating interesting food), etc. Maybe that's a strategy that could work for you, or maybe not idk. When I'm at a complete loss I ask for homemade cookies because those are always cheap and tasty.
