Here's an interesting #scifi premise.
Aliens invaded Earth and failed. In the process, they used mind control to turn a good chunk of humanity into insane, dangerous lunatics. They're still able to reason perfectly fine, but their brains have been scrambled hard to trap them in conspiracy theories, violent fantasies, and deep mistrust of "others."
Now it's the reconstruction era, and humanity must find a way to deprogram the mind controlled and return then to sanity or risk a global civil war.
