To give concrete examples to think about: Would F-Zero have been better on the SNES if it was a normal car racing game rather than futuristic hover crafts? I like the former idea myself, but if I'm honest I think the more realistic, non-hover craft racing games sold better around that time. Gran Turismo on the PS1 may have had a bigger impact and legacy, for instance, and even Mario Kart.
Would Megaman have been better if the color pallet limits of the NES didn't convince them to make him blue?
