I think this is a useful short- to medium-term step. I saw a post about this here a few days ago, and there were a lot of replies along the lines of 'no, get rid of the car parks, have everyone use public transport instead'.

And I'm completely supportive of promoting and investing in public transport as the default means of getting about in urban and suburban areas. And I believe that civic planning should always have major reduction of car use as a central priority.

But all of these things take time. Surely, we can aim to have fewer car parks, whilst also making the best use of them whilst they're still here.
