I've worked in newsrooms all my life and I can say that not one would turn down a story like this. A former MP caught repeating the crime which caused her to lose her career in the first place... it's newsworthy. Like it or not.
If it is only "gossip" our defamation laws apply. However I note that when asked, Golriz's lawyer did not deny the shoplifting had taken place.
It's an awful situation, but it's an unforced error.
